Fine Art Template

These two images are both images that I have used on this blog in the past, but now I added them as part of an official fine art template. Here they are:

Water; 9/20/09; 7:15 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f/5.6; 1/40; Olympus E-520; auto

Sewing Machine; 10/07/09; 1p.m.; Bannack Ghost Town; f/4.1; 1/40; Olympus E-520

The template was made by using a cool trick found in the Custom Images textbook. You use rectangles made as a shape layer and then hover an image over the layer until a link command appears. Click on the link command, and Photoshop will automatically add the image into the shape layer. .You can apply as many images as you please. I though this was a pretty neat tutorial.

Editing Post

These are my two bordered images that I printed off at Wal-Mart using their online photo services. The first was printed off as a 4×6 and the second was printed as an 8X10. I wanted the typography to be different on both of them because I wanted to see how they would separately look printed off.  I added a white boarder by changing the workspace size and inserting the image in Photoshop. The image information is as follows

Bulletin Board; Austin, TX; 10/31/09; 4 pm; 1/160; f/7.1

When I printed the images I added a slight saturation that wasn’t there in the regional image post a couple of weeks ago. Using Wal-Mart’s online photo service was so quick, easy, and surprisingly cheap. I was able to pay online and then go and pick it up in the morning ( I ordered late at night). I think the tangible images turned out pretty nice.

Photo-a-Day

A month ago I did a photo-a-day project and never ended up posting it. I lucked out and spent that week in Austin, Texas so I was able to get some great shots. Austin is such a cool city, so full of life and beauty. You will notice that there is no Monday shots, I only took pictures Tuesday-Sunday

Tuesday: I love candy, and I love how pretty candy is when it is lined up in shops so I took this image with a shallow depth of field to show the art in candy stocking.

Candy; Salt Lake City, UT; 10/27/09; 10 am; 1/30; f/4.4

Wednesday: Wednesday afternoon I took the 4 block or so walk to see the capitol building. I wanted to capture that it was the “lone-star state” as wel as get the capital building in the shot and this is what I came up with.

Lone-star State; Austin, TX; 10/28/09; 2:30 pm; 1/200; f/8

Thursday: Just another evening walking around downtown. The sunset was casting such beautiful light that I made Amberlee stop so I could do a portrait shot of her, she was a good sport.

Amberlee; Austin, TX; 10/29/09; 7:30 pm; 1/80; f/5.6

Friday:On Friday I went to see the bats fly out at sunset from under this bridge, the Congress Avenue Bridge. There are around 1.5 million bats that come out all at the same time. It was one of the most remarkable things I have ever seen.

Congress Avenue Bridge; Austin, TX; 10/30/09; 8 pm; 1/200; f/8

Saturday: On Saturday I got to visit the University of Texas. It is a pretty awesome campus. This was the bulletin board on the edge of campus.

Bulletin Board; Austin, TX; 10/31/09; 4 pm; 1/160; f/7.1

Sunday: My last day in Austin. I took this shot from the hotel window. We were on the 20th floor. Austin is a really beautiful city.

Skyline; Austin, TX; 11/01/09; 9 am; 1/125; f/4.5

I wanted to make it look like he was holding the fire. I took a couple variations of this shot before I got it how I liked it. This one was the best because there was no shadow from the candle behind the hand which made it more believable. I made no edits to this image.

These images were pretty fun to combine to make Brad into a lamp. I just put the layers on top of each other and then cut out the head and arms individually to place them and rotate them just right to fit perfectly with the lamp.

Lamp:11.15.09; 9 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f/ 3.8; 1/10; Olympus E-520; tripod

Muscle Brad:11.15.09; 9 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f/3.8; 1/8; Olympus E-520; tripod

Also, here is this one just for fun. My husband and I created this last year some time. It is a combination of 3 images, one overlooking the Salt Lake Valley, one of a guitar, and one of me.  I have lost the original images but here is the final product. We made it sepia so that the values of the images blended better together. The guitar illusion was created by changing the opacity.

Main Street: Rexburg, ID; 10.8.09; 4:30 p.m.; f/8; 1/250; tripod.

I wanted to share this image just for fun. I am having some computer and file difficulties uploading the images that created this, but once I can fix it I will add them as well. This was a combination of 4 images using the photmerge tool in Photoshop CS4. I lightened it about 75% because the sunset was casting dark shadows. The lightening naturally enhanced the blue in the ski and the colors in the buildings. This was a really fun shot.

View from the Hill: 11.8.09; Rexburg, ID; 4:20 p.m.; f/8; 1/250; Tripod

These images were all taken from the top of the hill up by the Rexburg Temple. I wanted to have a photograph of what my eyes could see looking out on Rexburg. I did not have to make any edits to the shots other than some minor cropping on the panoramic image. I used the photomerge tool in photoshop to create this effect.

Brad: 10.7.09 /Bannack, MT / 3 p.m. / f 5.5 / 1/200/ Olympus E-520

This photo was taken in Bannack, MT. I used the design effects tutorial found here: http://www.planetphotoshop.com/design-effects-2.html to blow out his face and add color. The tutorial suggests adding a gradient of colors but I didn’t like the way it looked on this particular image.

Harris Family (warm): 10.25.09 / 5:40 p.m. /Rexburg, ID / f 5.6 / 1/50 / Olympus E-520

I used the “match color” adjustment in photoshop to warm up the cool image to the same warm color of the warm image. I think that the effect was little bit dramatic, but it is a really cool tool regardless.

I took these photos of some friends of mine. They were really great to work with. They were natural and it was a lot of fun. I added a warming filter to “couple chair” and “couple tracks” but other than some contrast changes, the pictures are mostly un-edited. I think they turned out pretty good for my first portrait shots.

Piano:10/7/09; 3 p.m.; Bannack Ghost Town, MT; f/3.4; 1/20

I flipped this image so it was at a better angle and then applied the sprayed edge effect. After completing that effect I added the Bill Evans quote to the image.

Old Fashioned Piano: 10/7/09; 3:15 p.m.; Bannack Ghost Town, MT; f/3.4; 1/4

In this image I played with the brightness and contrast as well as saturated a tiny bit. I then applied the double fade border effect to the image. I pulled from the red in the chair to add in the border.
